Urbex: Abandoned Soviet Cold War Bunker

The eerie photos show thousands of WWII bunkers built by the Nazis over more than 600 miles of Europe’s cities, photographed by Norwegian photographer Vidar Ruud. Ruud found them abandoned, full of rubble and pigeon droppings, graded almost entirely flat with no significant geographical features nearby. Looking at the bunkers, Ruud said they reminded him of “small volcanoes like extinct volcanoes in the Western Desert in Egypt.”.

In July 1939, the walls were used to demonstrate the penetrating power of explosive bombs for Hitler. The demonstration did not go as planned, Instead of 8mm reinforcement, 10mm was used and the bombs lacked the gigantic penetration force that the weapon manufacturer would have liked to demonstrate. from Atlantic_Wall
